Charles Alfred Aimone, Jr (Chuck), 93 passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon, August 9, 2018, surrounded by family.
Chuck was born in Bergen County (Wood-Ridge) N.J. on December 30, 1924. He was the son of the late Bergen County Police Chief Charles A. Aimone, Sr. and the late Margaret Christiano Aimone. He was preceded in death by a daughter Lisa Yvonne Aimone; a brother; Albert; and a sister, Florence Aimone.
After graduating from Wood-Ridge High school in 1942, Chuck joined the U.S. Navy later that year. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer after 21 years of distinguished service during World War II, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War. Upon retirement from the Navy, he worked 21 years in the aircraft program at the Naval Air Rework Facility in Jacksonville, FL.
While in Jacksonville, Chuck met and married Vonice Anderson, his wife of 64 years. He was very active in the St. Andrews Presbyterian Church as a deacon, elder, Sunday school teacher, building chairman, treasurer and other capacities, and served with Meals on Wheels.
Chuck and Vonice moved to Savannah in 1991 and joined White Bluff Presbyterian Church, where he served as deacon and elder, and was member of the Joy Sunday School class. He was a member of the Exchange Club of Savannah, the Fleet Reserve Association, and the American Legion. Chuck was also a member of the Senior Golf Blitz at Bacon Park Golf Club for many years which he enjoyed immensely, including having a hole-in-one.
Some of his great passions were watching his grandchildren as they participated in their many sports and other activities, the game of golf, and watching the Atlanta Braves with Vonice.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Vonice; his son and daughter-in-law, Charley and Rozanne of Savannah; his grandchildren, Emily Brown (Stiles) of Atlanta and Drew Aimone(Gracie) of Austin, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like the thank the loving staff of Azalealand Nursing Home and his caregivers, Pat Smith and Jonequa Bell for their faithful care.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. at White Bluff Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall after the service.
In lieu of flowers, Remembrances may be made to White Bluff Presbyterian Church, 10710 White Bluff Road, Savannah, Ga 31406.
